Hi Gerry, sorry to welcome you to the club, but happy to be able to share. I usually go to the ANusa forum because this one seems to be less frequently posted to. There are lots of visitors here but not many posters.
I live in the GTA and don't know of any surgeons out your way. There are some folks on here who have had surgery out east.
Hang in there.

Hi Gerry,
I live in Ottawa and I just had radiation treatment at the Ottawa General about 4 weeks ago. Things went well with no side effects at all. I posted lots of info in the radiation therapy section but, unfortunatly, my post was cut off. ANAC is looking into fixing my post. How big is your AN and what are your symptoms ?
Lots of info out there. Take your time and do your research. Things will become more clear as you get informed.

Hi Gerry,
I am from the Ottawa Valley area (Aylmer) and consulted with Dr. Shram and Dr. Benoit at the Civic and was referred by my ent at the Montfort to a surgeon in Montreal (because of being a Quebec patient). I decided he was the most experienced surgeon and chose to go to Montreal for a week for translab surgery. My tumour was quite large so I didn't have many options (none really).
We have our next group meeting in January I believe since we just had one in the fall, but if you contact the head office or check the website, you should find info into others to contact.
Some people in our area are referred to Sunnybrook in Toronto and I know of a few people who have seen Dr. Nedzelski.
Depending on the size of your tumour, you have time to consult with a few doctors and check out all of your options. I found that I really had to take control of my own choices, since it would be easy to be swept up in the process. ANAC has wonderful pamphlets that they will send you, that cover all of the aspects of pre and post surgery.
Take care and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Translab surgery February 2007 for then 5 cm AN, in Montreal, QC, by the VERY gifted hands of Dr. Saliba and Dr. Bojanowski at Notre Dame Hospital.
What a difference a couple of years make!!! |
