Authority
The Board of Directors (BOD) is the legal authority for ANAC. As a member of the Board, a Director is responsible for the effective governance of the Association.
Core Competencies

- Financial Oversight & Fundraising

Responsibilities
Board Directors are expected to:
- Participate in Board development and strategic planning
- Serve as a Committee Chair/Co-chair, fulfilling specific roles and responsibilities as defined in the Committee job description
- Prepare for and actively participate in all virtual Board of Directors’ meetings, held bi-monthly (approximately 1.5 hrs), strategic planning workshops (once annually, 1.5 hrs), and other meetings as dictated by committee involvement
- Participate in activities of the Association, including the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- Approve the Annual Budget
- Support fundraising initiatives and public awareness activities
- Represent the Association professionally and responsibly to protect its reputation and interests
- Develop relationships with community stakeholders
- Act in a fiscally responsible manner with due regard to the aims of the Association
- Approve the hiring and release of the National Operations Director
Requirements
- Commitment to the work of the organization
- Willingness to serve as a Committee Chair/Co-Chair of a Board Committee
- Attendance at all meetings (Board of Directors, Annual General Meeting, committee meetings as required)
- Membership in ANAC in good standing
Qualifications
- Background in a relevant field or professional experience that aligns with ANAC’s mission (e.g., leadership, governance, communications, finance, fundraising, community engagement, or advocacy)
- Experience in strategic planning, project management, committee coordination, or organizational development, preferably in nonprofit or volunteer settings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and community members
- Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
- Ability to work collaboratively and contribute constructively to board discussions and decisions
- Comfort with virtual meeting platforms and basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom)
