Description:
Dr. Landry delivered a fascinating webinar expanding on his article Revisiting the Molecular Landscape of Vestibular Schwannoma. He walked us through the challenges patients and clinicians face with treatment options—currently limited to surgery and radiation—and explained how his team’s research is uncovering new possibilities. By analyzing vestibular schwannoma tissue at the genetic level, his group identified two distinct molecular subgroups with important differences in biology and tumour microenvironment. This discovery opens the door to potential new treatments, including immune checkpoint inhibitors and repurposed drugs such as MEK inhibitors. Dr. Landry’s presentation shed light on how genetic profiling may one day help tailor therapies for patients and reduce the need for repeat interventions.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Alexander Landry, MD
Dr. Alex Landry is a 3rd year neurosurgery resident at the University of Toronto with an interest in skull base surgery. He will start a PhD in Dr. Gelareh Zadehʹs lab this year focusing on improving our molecular understanding of brain tumours and how it can lead to new treatments for patients.
